Science Movie Making!

Approximate lenth: 4 lessons 45 minutes each

Overview
In this lesson, students will investigate different animals and the specific environmental conditions they need to survive. They begin by observing their class turtle and discussing what types of environments a turtle can survive in. Then, they choose a card that is placed face-down on the table. Each card contains a fact about a certain animal, and each student will move into groups with people that have the same animal as them. Using the facts on the cards, along with any other information collected from the internet, each group will create, and edit a movie that informs others about thier animal's specific environmental needs.

Why Comment?

After viewing several blogs that have been commented on, I have discovered that the comments people leave are as diverse as the blogs themselves. Some people leave compliments as a comment (great information, cool designs, nice pics). Others share a similar experience, and sometimes provide sympathy (I know what you mean, I feel the same way). Other people comment on how the blog made them feel (your page inspired me, I felt like I was there when it happened). I believe that people post comments on other peoples’ blogs because they appreciate when people comment on theirs. I could be wrong, but I think that everyone who puts the time and effort into making a personal blog would appreciate the comments of people who have respected their work. I know for me personally, I usually only comment on friends’ blogs because I want them to know that I care about them and what they have to say. Perhaps others just enjoy voicing their opinion on topics they care about though. Why do you comment?

Elementary Education

I found a good blog with essential information for teachers. The blog was written by a woman named Beth Lewis, and in the blog she highlights the 10 most common mistakes that teachers make. The mistakes begin with becoming "buddies" with students, to not setting up an organized plan, to remaining isolated in the school community, and finishing up with being too hard on yourself. Also, built into these great sections are links to more information for teachers. I believe that Beth really hit the nail with her posting. She has given me a focus for my future teaching career because by realizing what to avoid, I have also discovered what I want to strive for. Thanks!
